This online workshop is for beginners and does not require previous experience of working with humanitarian assistance. This workshop is for you if humanitarian work is new to you, or if you have applied to the Danish Emergency Relief Fund (DERF) before but found the application format difficult to understand. The workshop will be held in English and is open for CISU members and non-members.

The online workshop will be in English and provides basic knowledge about the Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS), its nine commitments and how these are integrated in an application to the DERF. Through work with examples the workshop will improve your understanding of the application format, highlight and discuss central elements of how to write a good application.

With this workshop we try something new. Implementing organisations may participate – and are encouraged to do so – if they do this together with their Danish partner organisation. In doing so, it is the Danish organisation, who will have to register the local partners’ participation.

The workshop starts with an introduction to the humanitarian principles and a presentation of the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS) which CISU applies as a quality assurance framework for assessing applications to the DERF. We will present core elements of the CHS, such as how to ensure relevance and appropriateness of interventions and the difference between feedback and complaints mechanisms.

The second part of the online workshop focuses on how to write a good application to the DERF. We will share examples and engage you in a discussion about how to plan a humanitarian intervention by understanding, addressing and adhering to the CHS. Here we will share experiences and good practice from previous successful DERF applications.

The workshop will be online (Zoom meeting) and participants will be actively involved and work in break-out rooms and by using digital post-its.

The DERF funding guidelines and the application formats for the DERF are useful background documents which we recommend you read before the workshop. These can be downloaded here.
